dogkisses for Roscoe

I’ve been trying to publish a post in this blog for several months or more, but after such a long time away from writing, the endeavor is challenging.

An honorable mention of Ruthie Mae, a wonderful dog, who crossed the Rainbow Bridge in 2014 and now lives in my memories, feels like a good place to start.

Ruthie named this blog, “dogkisses,” with slight little kisses on my arm each time I reached for her bag of food.  She was forever a tender heart.  So sensitive.  So sweet.  Ruthie’s kisses felt like snowflakes melting on my skin.

Not long after Ruthie passed, my late friend, Laurie, a former fellow blogger who lived with chronic illness, also passed away.

I was sad.  I also had to move.  Again.  Life has been hard.

My writer’s voice seemed to have vanished for a while, but after settling into a new apartment, which meant that I could finally sleep, I gradually found myself making notes on random sheets of paper.

Also during my online absence, the bond I’ve always had with my blog and the blogging community as well, never abandoned my mind or heart, which I think is pretty cool.

Aside from the logistics of moving and an extreme backlash of severe pain from fibromyalgia, during and after my son and I moved two apartments, twice, I became exhausted. Utterly exhausted.

There is a lot I could say about the past two years and what led to my long absence, but that would take a while and more energy than I have today.

For now, I’d like to introduce you to my new and most special friend, Roscoe!  He’s a beautiful dog.  I don’t have many photos uploaded to this computer yet, but soon I’ll show you his beautiful hound-dog spots and multi-color coat.

No Words for this Face!

I’m pretty sure Roscoe is a mix of German Shorthaired Pointer and Bluetick Coonhound.  His face reminds me of a Husky.  His eyes are an unusual green.  He has wonderful long legs, enabling him to run fast and climb high too!  He’s a thin guy, but some of us just can’t catch a pound or two for long.

As I write, Roscoe reminds me only of a hound dog.  Whining all the time 😉

Roscoe and I have had a truly amazing journey together since we met at a rural shelter in April, 2016.  I hope to soon tell you about our adventures and for various reasons, a few several misadventures as well.

With luck and determination, I shall return soon.  Fingers crossed.  Thanks for visiting dogkisses!

Cheers!

Illuminating Blogger Award

My enthusiastic thanks to CJ, at Food Stories, for giving Dogkisses’s blog the Illuminating Blogger Award! Thank you CJ!

Blogger Award

Dreamwalker’s Sanctuary

IconDoIt, the blog!

Again, thanks to CJ at Food Stories for the award and creating the Food Stories blogroll/nominee page.

Thanks also to the blogging community for offering interesting and illuminating content 🙂

Oh yeah, one random thing about myself…

I like good thrift shop finds!  Today I bought a nice mirror for my son framed in thick strong Bamboo.  It’s pretty, matches his furniture and I saved about 150 US Dollars!  Only spent 8.  Pretty good 🙂

For the sake of illuminating content, I’d like to share a photo from the horticulture gardens where my son and I are volunteering and having many ‘Green Healing‘ Days!

I’ll get to explaining the title of this post in a minute, but first, a little preamble is called for.

While I’ve been laying low in the background for a few months, I’ve been silently enjoying reading my favorite blogs (Dogkisses) and Green Healing Notes, along with a ton of books. If you’re a regular reader here at IconDoIt, you’ve probably noticed that I’ve mentioned Dogkisses several times and that the author of those two blogs is also a frequent commenter here. So what’s that all about, you might ask?

One of the greatest serendipities of writing a blog and commenting on blogs other than your own, is that you have the opportunity to come to know people from around the globe with whom you already have something in common (an interest in the subject…

Yes Indeed… Hello World!

This blog is under construction, which I guess, is obvious.

Feel free to add your ideas and suggestions as I create this ‘Green Healing’ space for Holistic and Horticultural notes from the garden, and wherever we may find those sweet moments in time, when healing happens.

See you soon!

Michelle.

note: I am not one of the ‘Gardening Girls’ in the photo.  I’m the amateur photographer.

Kreativ Blogger Award

I love it! My thanks to Dorkydeb.com

A sweet award!

My thanks to DorkyDeb.com for this very nice gift.

The blogging community is one I’m proud to be a part of for several reasons, the best of which, I guess, is that I have a sense of belonging.  I could say the best reason is because I’m among many bright, intelligent, generous and genuinely caring people, some of whom I’ve become friends with, because that’s true, but if I didn’t feel like I belonged, then I probably wouldn’t be here blogging.

For a long time, I wrote silently in my journal, always wishing that one day I’d be able to write a book, or maybe newspaper articles, (or anything for that matter) and that somebody would want to read what I wrote.  And then I discovered blogging, rather accidentally.  I saw the Publish button and thought how cool is that!

The first comment I received was from a woman who told me that my home page wasn’t configured properly.  This is important for a blog.  I didn’t realize at the time that this sort of unconditional thoughtfulness would be an ongoing theme in the blogosphere.

What does this have to do with my having received the Kreativ Blogger Award?  I’ll try to tell you.

It’s about belonging, being heard, being acknowledged, being appreciated, and hoping that I’ve been able to add something of value to a wonderful and inspiring community of people from all across the world.

Now, of course, with an award, there are rules.

1. Thank the blogger who presented you with the award.

Again, Thank you Deb! I love your blog.

2. Post a photo of the award.

Hope you can see the pretty award above.

3. Share ten things about yourself that readers don’t know.

I don’t know what all you know, but here goes.

1. I don’t know enough about computers to be operating one, but I do it anyway.

2. I have a hard time relaxing.

3. My Dad raised Beagles.

4. I wish I could live my life closer to the land.

5. My heart is broken in several places.

6. I’m scared a lot.

8. I believe humans have the potential to make the world a better place.

9. I feel the energy of thoughts.

10. I would not vote for any of the Republican Presidential Candidates, even if I was a Republican.

3. Present this award to six bloggers.

1. Ash, @Wolfdreams –Ash is a talented writer. She has experience in medicine, from the patient’s perspective, along with having done years worth of reading and research. As a result, Wolfdreams is a resourceful health blog for people suffering from chronic illness, or for family members who would like to better understand and relate to an ill relative. Ash has other areas of interest that she writes about too. Go visit 🙂

2. Laurie @Hibernationnow –It’s about life, with some poetry. Go visit 🙂

3. Sue Dreamwalker @Dreamwalker’s Sanctuary –Definitely a Kreativ place to visit! Full of art, stories, inspiring blog posts, and all sorts of surprises! Go visit 🙂

As always, I enjoyed accepting this award.  I hope the bloggers I chose enjoy it as well, and that you may pop over and take a look at the blogs.

Versatile Blogger Award ~ A call to write

From Michelle's Dogkisses's Blog, Thank You!

Thank you my fellow bloggers, Lynda R. CookSue Dreamwalker from Dreamwalker’s Sanctuary and Paul Handover at Learning from Dogs, for nominating Dogkisses’s blog for the Versatile Blogger Award.

An Update on 12/29/11:  My genuine thanks goes to Deb, from Dorky Deb’s Blog, for also having nominated me for this blog.

I love awards!  I haven’t been the most attentive blogger over the past six months, so I really appreciate that folks remembered my blog.  With that said, I felt a call to write this post.  Thanks for the inspiration!

Now.  The Rules as listed on the recently created VBA blog.

  • Thank the person who gave you this award. That’s common courtesy.
  •  Include a link to their blog. That’s also common courtesy — if you can figure out how to do it.
  •  Next, select 15 blogs/bloggers that you’ve recently discovered or follow regularly.
  •  Nominate those 15 bloggers for the Versatile Blogger Award — you might include a link to this site.
  •  Finally, tell the person who nominated you 7 things about yourself.

The blogs I am nominating for The Versatile Blogging Award are as follows:

Ash, from her blog, Wolfdreams (http://wolfdreams.wordpress.com/)  A true mountain woman, terrific writer and, strong survivor!

John Hayden at Dispatches from Consternation (http://lifeaftersixty.wordpress.com/)  John is a former newsman, blogging about politics, living simple and frugality.  I love his blog!

Leslie Sigal Javorek from IconDoIt  (http://icondoit.wordpress.com/)  If you’ve ever visited my blog before, then you may know that I absolutely love Leslie’s icons.  Much more than her awesome icons and art, Leslie is a survivor, determined not until she is ready and, a talented writer.  Go see!

Planet Jan (http://planetjan.wordpress.com/)   A blog by a witty and predictably funny teacher.

Barbara from My life, His Addiction (http://parentofheroinaddict.blogspot.com/)  A strong woman and Mother writing about the experience of her son’s addiction to heroin.  Moving and real.

Holistic Recovery from Schizophrenia by Rossa Forbes (http://holisticschizophrenia.blogspot.com/)  This blog speaks for itself, but is very well written and resourceful.

Dorky Deb who is not dorky at all, but a true blogger with 100% of heart and soul! (I’m pretty sure Deb has received this award, which exempts her from another round of acceptance, but wanted to nominate her anyway, because I enjoy her blog and photography).

Pamela Spiro Wagner from Wagblog, (http://wagblog.wordpress.com/)  Pam is an author, artist and survivor.  She writes an amazing blog about life with schizophrenia/bipolar illness.  Take a tour “through Vision Therapy and narcolepsy, Global Warming and just about anything else that interests me as well!”

Rosemary from Seeking Equilibrium (http://rosemaryl.blogspot.com/)  A professional well researched and written blog about living with pain from fibromyalgia.  A long-standing favorite blog of mine!

Dominique at 4Walls and AView  An Airforce Vet, author and “prolific blogger” writing about living with ME and FMS.  Dominique has a strong spirit and clear writing voice.  Her blog inspires me for several reasons, but you’ll have to visit to see why.

Amanda McMillen at (Insert Something Witty) (http://mcmillenwrites.wordpress.com/)  I recently discovered this blog via a comment.  In her words, “Schizophrenic, writer, mother, and sometimes inspired to greatness,” I look forward to reading more of Amanda’s posts.

Forgive me for only nominating 11 bloggers for this award, but I promise, the ones I chose are interesting and definitely worth your time to visit.

More Rules ;)…  I’m required to tell you seven things about myself.

2.  I’m a country girl in my heart.

6.  If I am ever a bride again, I want a wedding dress very much like this one! (The bride in red. Open photo to view larger image and see how pretty!)

7.  I love dogs as much as I do people.

In Gratitude, with wishes that everyone is blessed with love, peace and joy!

Michelle, keeper of Dogkisses’s blog.

Will Return…

Life and Health, one and the same...Life and Fatigue are one and the same lately, along with a large dose of pain.  I take leave, but I shall return when more rested.  Hopefully sooner rather than later.

As always, thanks for visiting Dogkisses’s blog.

Memetastic True Story Revealed

I wrote five stories about myself in an earlier post, MEMETASTIC BLOG AWARD. Only one of the stories is completely truthful.

I confess –this does feel like a confession and one which I hadn’t expected — Story number THREE is the whole truth.

I have an authentic Mile High Club button.  I earned it in college.flying free a mile high, image of mile high pin, nightlights on a plane

I couldn’t believe I found the button, or pin rather, when I looked for it yesterday.  It’s a shiny little pin that one would wear on a shirt, but I don’t think I’ve ever worn it.

It’s as shiny as it was when it was given to me by the professor, who eventually became my long time friend and mentor.  We went on several flights together, but that was the only time we did anything like we did the day we earned our pins.

The only bold-face lie out of the five stories I wrote is number four“I love Comic Sans, Oprah, and Dr. Phil.”

I didn’t know what Comic Sans was until several days ago when I received the Memetasic award from Deb, at DorkyDeb.com.

I’ve never watched a daytime television talk show, unless it’s a PBS special or something of that nature.  I read an article in Oprah’s magazine a couple of years ago, which I enjoyed, but I never watched her show.

I didn’t know who Dr. Phil was until I saw his face on a magazine, while standing in line at the grocery store, which was around about 2004.  I asked my friend who was with me to tell me a little about him.  She was altogether shocked.

The other stories are mostly true.  I’ll likely write about the truth in those in a follow-up post.

About my little wheel-chair in story # 1.  I actually loved the chair because it was the only way I could get around.  And the day I could walk again, which I remember vividly, I was a very very happy little girl!

I have a history with pilots and airplanes.  I don’t know why.  As a result, I’ve flown in old planes, small planes, huge planes and a few in the middle.  A few times, I’ve flown the planes myself, but have never attempted to land one.

My dad took me on my first plane ride when I was about eight years old.  He and his buddy, Carly, who had a plane, but I’m not sure about a license, were quite the pair together.  We lived in the country and Carly had a landing strip on his land.  One time they took one of my sisters and me on what my dad’s friend called the, “roller-coaster in the air.”  We did, “donuts.”

I had great fun, but my older sister has since told me that she was scared.  I was surprised.  She says she didn’t want me to know when we were flying. She was always doing what she could to make me feel safe.

The best times I ever had in airplanes was with a man, Rick, whom I once loved very much.  Flying was a hobby for him.  Sadly, he died in a motorcycle accident not that long ago.  As you may have realized if you’ve read parts of my blog, there is usually an element of something hard in my stories.

The funnest flight I ever took with Rick was when he rented a Cherokee plane for my son’s eighth birthday.  My son is part Cherokee, so this was very special.

Shortly after we were in the air, we looked back to see my son sleeping in the backseat of the plane.  At first, I was afraid that Rick would be offended, but then, he was never offended.  He was the most peaceful human being I’ve ever known.  He laughed.  He knew my son fell asleep whenever he felt safe and relaxed.

“I guess he’s really enjoying himself,” my friend said chuckling.  We had a peaceful quiet trip.  We landed at a great little place where we walked across the road to a country southern home-style restaurant.  My son got to fly the plane for a bit on the way back home.  My friend laughed about my son sleeping on his birthday flight from then on.  He said it was the greatest compliment a pilot could ever receive.

I guess, looking back, I’ve had lots of fun in the air!

Thanks for reading my stories.  As always, thanks for visiting Dogkisses’s blog!
