Life and Loss
Struggling to Find Uninterrupted Time for Writing and Reflection
My hands and fingers started bothering me more over the past two years. My vision is compromised. Writing once came so easily and I adored the process. I identified with the craft as an important part of who I am.
Bella still offers up her bright eyes every day. She prances about like she’s the happiest dog in the town.
I was diagnosed with another autoimmune disease. Mixed Connective Tissue Diseases. Doctors and their diagnoses do not impress me. One says one thing and another says a different thing. After years of this dynamic, I don’t know if I should trust any diagnosis.
I miss writing. I miss the home I left in 2014. I miss the many birds who visited my yard. And to my own surprise, the butterflies that started visiting my mostly shaded moss covered yard.
I had dozens of plants! The butterflies first enjoyed the Lantana. By the time I moved, I had almost every plant I had ever dreamed of having.
The birds that came into my yard felt like they were mine. Believe me, it was really sad after I left. I thought of them every night when I lied in bed. I cried for the best of a year.
Everything I lost was because I made a choice; many choices, that I believed at the time was what I should do for someone I dearly love. Now, I think perhaps I was blinded by my motherly instincts.
I have to go to physical therapy now. I’m not progressing. PT is all about the patient doing the exercises at home. Like writing, my time is interrupted.
I wish I had a more positive post. I figured why not just write. Right?
Until next time, which I truly hope is not months and months in the future, I wish you, my readers, a good day!
Very truly,
DOGKISSES.

Green Healing ~ Tiny Light
I am a tiny yellow flower! I bloom now and again. I live in a small clay pot and have two close neighbors. They also live in clay. One is a miniature rosebush. She blooms tiny yellow flowers like me!
My other neighbor hasn’t bloomed yet. We don’t know the plant’s family origin, but it has interesting rounded leaves that offer me a bit of shade.
We are a nice little community on the west side of a plant-lover’s deck. We like our home and the clay that holds our roots together.
Our caretaker loves each of us, but I suspect she has a soft spot for me. Her mother told her that I was, “just a weed,” and suggested that she, “pull me up.” Obviously, this advice wasn’t taken and she let me grow.
Well, one day, I bloomed! Our plant-loving caretaker was so surprised that she called her mother to tell of my appearance.
“Oh, Mother!” I heard her say. “You should see how beautiful the little flower is! It’s a lovely soft yellow and only last one day!”
I was proud to be talked about in such a grand way! I started blooming more and more. I love being a flower so appreciated and enjoyed. My caretaker says I’m part of a Green Healing journey she’s on in life. That makes me very special to her.
My name is unknown to me and my plant-loving caretaker, but that doesn’t matter. I am an awesome tiny light; a soft bright spot on the west side of a lively deck!

Green Healing ~ Discovering Macro
Whoa! I discovered macro mode!

BEAUTIFUL SUNFLOWERS!

Ingredients for GREEN HEALING:
A beautiful day. A classic Carolina sky.
A lovely bright Sunflower. A little silver Canon.
My little silver camera surprises me. I see people walking around with very fine cameras. They are impressively large and I’m sure those carrying bags include an assortment of lens. One day I might like to have a bigger and more powerful camera, but that’s a secret. I don’t want my sweet compact little Canon to hear me say that.
I love the ‘macro’ view of various insects, along with the delicate intricacies of tiny flowers. Photographing the life around the pond garden is always fun but again, a closer look is better. ‘Little Frog’ has grown. He (or she) mostly sits in the sun when I visit.
The newest garden critter, a baby turtle with a serious face and grand personality, usually found within a few feet of the frog doesn’t seem to like me, or my camera. I’m not sure which one bothers it more. The frog had to go clear to the other side of the pond to get away from the determined turtle while I took pictures. I must admit that although I love taking photos of wildlife, I don’t want to disturb the beloved critters I meet. I’ve noticed how some don’t like being photographed, particularly lizards and turtles.
My favorite part of the day was photographing Butterflies in the Tithonia (Mexican Sunflower) garden. I was in awe! Truly, I was.

Painted Lady and Mexican Sunflower
Above, Our beautiful Painted Lady Butterfly sips sweet nectar from Tithonia. (Below) Swallowtail enjoys the same. Tithonia are my favorite flowers because of their prolific blooms, hardiness and obvious nectar production. Of course, the deep (and bright) orange color is pretty cool too.

I’m very glad I took the time to play with my camera in the garden. The images of butterflies are vivid and clear in my mind. I can close my eyes and see swirling colors and merging outlines of transparent wings. I’ve had a few dreams of winged colors, which were nice to wake up with in my mind. I guess you could say I’m having macro ‘Green Healing’ dreams! Mother Nature is amazing.
In Gratitude to Mother Earth, Father Sky, the Butterflies, and one very special person who decided to plant the Tithonia Garden!

Well, I’m back sooner than expected to share more Sunflower photos. I really can’t help myself. If I wasn’t tired, which I am, I’d give fun names to the ones I saw today! I guess some folks might think if you’ve seen one Sunflower, then you’ve seen them all, but today only strengthened my personal observation that each one is unique.

My friend and I had gone to the gardens to have lunch under the naturally vine-crafted Gazebo by the herb garden. I thought it would be cool spot to sit, but I used all except one napkin for wiping the out-pour of sweat on my body, and I had on a summer dress!
I may be a mountain woman in my heart, but I’m not sure. We lived in the mountains when I was a toddler, but soon moved to…

Pretty Sunflower! (Reblogged from my Green Healing Notes photo/journal)
From the Sunflower Garden
“The Sunflow’r, thinking ’twas for him foul shame
To nap by daylight, strove t’ excuse the blame;
It was not sleep that made him nod, he said,
But too great weight and largeness of his head.”

Green Healing ~ Plant People and a Bucket of Beets
“That’s a picture right there,” a staff member remarked today when she saw the red bucket of beets.
She was right and it’s a wonderful image, but the best part is that we each took home a beet or two. I’ve already eaten a little orange one. I’ve never seen one that color and wanted to try it right away. It was great!
We also ate our first carrot today. Yum! Fresh vegetables taste better than ones that traveled thousands of miles, and it sure feels good to eat food that I helped grow. It also feels good to see and experience the gift of life from nature.
It seems like most days I meet a garden friend. I saw a few butterflies and many bees today. My friend and co-volunteer touches bees and said she once kissed a bee!
The creatures of the gardens always captures the heart of Plant People. I met the little green guy, pictured below, in a garden behind a restaurant where I had lunch with two friends after group today.
Today was another good Green Healing day in the Horticulture Therapy gardens. We were blessed with good food, each of us had something to offer and as always, we shared a mutual kindness and empathy that soothes my spirit and makes me feel a little lighter.
We ended our day with hope that the newly planted sunflowers will grow big and tall, which will bring smiles to many different faces. We also planted Loofah seeds! Isn’t that exciting?
Thanks for visiting! Please feel free to share your thoughts.
